Lisa Lindsay Whitworth Dodds

Lisa Dodds Obituary

LISA LINDSAY WHITWORTH DODDS passed away peacefully on the 25th of March 2009, in Houston, Texas. Her family and friends will miss her and her bright smile very much. The oldest child of Donald McKay and Helen Keating Lindsay, Lisa was born on the 9th of June 1952 in Champaign, Illinois. Lisa was raised in Champaign, graduated from Villa Duchesne High School in St. Louis, Missouri, attended Pine Manor College in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, and received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Arizona, where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta. Lisa was preceded in death by her mother and father and daughter Jennifer. She is survived by her children, Bryan Patrick Whitworth of Houston, Texas and Meghan McKay Whitworth of Dallas, Texas, and her husband Newton Harris Dodds of Champaign, Illinois. She is also survived by her brothers, Michael Keating Lindsay and wife Bobbi of Bloomington, Indiana; Martin McKay Lindsay and wife Heidi of Arlington Heights, Illinois; and their children Caroline Keating Lindsay, Jack Walker Lindsay, and William McKay Lindsay, as well as her Dodds family, Holly Harris Dodds of Monterrey, California; Jason Harris Dodds and wife Lynnette, and their children Hayden Harris Dodds and Olivia Christine Dodds; and brother-in-law Donald Dodds, all of Champaign, Illinois. A single mother for many years, Lisa considered her children her greatest accomplishment. She supported their activities at The Kinkaid School and Episcopal High School in Houston and enjoyed their friends, who were always welcome at the Whitworth home. Lisa was a member of the Junior League of Houston, Inc. and Lakeside Country Club, where she was an avid golfer. She passed her love of golf to her son Bryan and her love of design and fashion to her daughter Meghan. After her marriage to Newt Dodds on the 24th of April 2004, Lisa moved to Champaign, Illinois. Lisa and Newt shared a passion for golf, attending University of Illinois sporting events, and travel. She especially enjoyed their annual trip to Petit St. Vincent in the Grenadines. To celebrate a life well lived, a memorial service for Lisa will be conducted at one o'clock in the afternoon on Wednesday, the 1st of April, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston, Texas, with the Reverend Martin J. Bastian officiating. Immediately following the service, friends are cordially invited to visit with the family at the home of Martha Ann and Byron Snyder. After a memorial service in Champaign, Illinois, Lisa will be buried beside her parents in Decatur, Illinois. Lisa was a generous benefactor of children's causes. In lieu of the usual remembrances, the family suggests memorial contributions be directed to Bo's Place, 10050 Buffalo Speedway, Houston, Texas 77054 or The Houston Hospice, 1905 Holcombe Blvd, Houston, Texas 77030.

My husband Patrick and I were fortunate to have known Lisa at the UA. We have many fond memories of our years together at University of Arizona.
It is apparent that those qualities that endeared us to Lisa were shared by many in her life.

Newt -

I just wanted to touch base as I know you must be heartbroken; just remember how much happiness you must have brought to Lisa during your years together.

Although Lisa and I lost touch after our first or second year at UA, it's obvious that Lisa remained a very caring and giving individual throughout her too short life. God bless.

I've known Lisa since childhood and true to her nature, she faced this last challenge head on, with unmatched courage, strength, grace and even humor. Everyone who knew Lisa, can see that beautiful smile and hear that infectious laugh when they think of her. Bryan and Meghan are her most cherished legacy. I will so miss you my dear....

Dear Meghan and Bryan,

I am deeply saddened to learn of your Mom's passing. I was unaware of her illness and only wish I had known. Please know that your Mom was very muched loved by so many people and how proud she was of you both. She had a joyous and loving spirit and she was always there to lend advice or encouragement or a laugh when others had problems that were too big for them to handle alone. If there is anything that I can do please do not hesitate to call me.
With deepest sympathy.

Dear Meghan and Bryan,
Myself and my family in Champaign, (the Johnsons and the Kecks) are truly saddened by the loss of your mother. Our family history of friendship goes way back to well before Don and Helen, and even though Lisa and I had lost touch the last couple of years here in Houston, I know that her spirit of love will still be around forever. What a great and gracious lady.
