Lt. Col. Phillip R. Cooper, Sr. Lt. Col. Phillip R. Cooper, Sr., U.S. Army (Retired) passed away on Thursday, June 13, 2013. He was born on November 4, 1939, in Houston, Texas to Ruthesther and Edwin Cooper.
Phillip graduated from Jack Yates High School, Houston, Texas and received his post-secondary degree from Howard University, Washington, D.C. where he was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
Phillip was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin Ellis and Ruthester Porsche Cooper and his youngest sibling, Gary Ronald Cooper. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife Ada Cooper and children Phillip Jr. and Jacquelyn Ruth. His memory will be cherished and remembered with love by his siblings: Edwin L. Cooper (Helene); Joe Allen Cooper (Melba); Hannah Cooper Lewis (Roy), and Otha Cooper Barnes (Sheldon); and God sister Pamela Mosely Jackson. The family heritage continues with nieces and nephews Joe Jr., Karen, Tonya, Astrid (Malcolm), Roy Jr. (Shawny), Amaury (Abigail), Brooke (Herbert), Trina, Sharon Waltyne, Lori, Scarlett, and grand nieces and nephews; Joseph, Justtine, Keiara, Jarvis, Meagan, Madeline, Christopher, Kiah, and Justus. His legacy will continue to flourish through his most recent and most cherished source of pride and joy, grandchild Redick "Seis" Edwards VI, who he sometimes referred to as "the little boy."
On Tuesday, June 18, 2013, a memorial service will be held at St. Catherine of Sienna Episcopal Church, 4747 Sienna Parkway, Missouri City, Texas 77459. Visitation and Fraternity remembrances at 10 o'clock in the morning followed by a memorial celebration at 11:00 o'clock. Phillip will be interred at Forest Lawn Cemetery, 12800 Westheimer Road, Houston, TX 77077.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the /Kidney Foundation in the name of Phillip R. Cooper, Sr.
