Margaret Meaden Obituary
Margaret Wilson "Peg" Meaden, a beloved wife, mother and grandmother passed away on the 27th of April, 2014, in Houston at the age of 89. Peg was born on the 27th of December, 1924, in Cleveland, Ohio. She was the youngest child of Richard and Lydia Wilson.
Peg is preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Douglas S. Meaden Jr.; her brother, Richard H. Wilson; and her sister, Kathryn W. Moore. She is survived by her sons, Peter E. Meaden and wife Sharon, Douglas S. Meaden III and wife Beverly, David H. Meaden and wife Wendy; as well as her grandchildren, Michael L. Meaden, Adair M. Neely, Lydia A. Meaden, Holly E. Meaden, Peter B. Meaden and Mark S. Meaden.
Peg graduated with Doug from Cleveland Heights High School in 1942. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 1946 from Simmons College in Boston, MA. Upon graduation she returned to Cleveland and began work at the Collonade Co. as a dietician. Peg and Doug were married in 1950. The family lived in Louisiana, California and New Jersey before moving to Houston in 1964. In 1969 she began a joy-filled twelve year teaching career at Westwood Elementary.
Peg was an active member of St. Martin's Episcopal Church where she served in a number of volunteer positions including president of the ECW.
Peg loved the Lord Jesus Christ, family, the church, her students, walks down Strey Lane, tennis and golf with friends at Pine Forest Country Club and Memorial Forest Club, giving to others, the Memorial Mustangs, and sporting events in general.
The family is exceedingly grateful to the staff of the Hallmark and the Methodist Hospital for the care Peg received in recent years.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from six o'clock until eight o'clock this evening, Thursday, the 1st of May, in the parlor of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
The memorial service for Peg is to be conducted at two o'clock in the afternoon on Friday, the 2nd of May, at St. Martin's Episcopal Church, 717 Sage Road in Houston, where the Rev. Martin J. Bastian, Vice Rector, is to officiate. Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception in the adjacent Bagby Parish Hall.
Prior to the service, the family will have gathered for an interment at Memorial Oaks Cemetery in Houston.
In lieu of customary remembrances, and for those desiring, memorial contributions in Peg's name may be made to St. Martin's Episcopal Church Pastoral Care Ministry, 717 Sage Rd. Houston, TX, 77056.
