Mary Vezey Obituary
Mary Jeanette Vezey, loving and beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away on December 13, 2013 in Houston. She was born on March 11, 1925 in Fort Smith, Arkansas to Johnnie Marie O'Leary Thelen and Lambert Thelen. Predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Willard John Vezey, she is survived by her sons and their spouses, Tom & Michele Vezey of Fountain Hills, Arizona, and Mark & Linda Vezey, Steve & Shu-An Vezey and Bryan Vezey & Lan Norwood, all of Houston, Texas; her grandchildren and their spouses, Jesse & Jessica Vezey of Mesa, Arizona, Sarah & Merlin Cormier of San Diego, California, Matthew Vezey of Fountain Hills, Arizona, Michael Vezey of Jakarta, Indonesia, Kristen & Chris Mikulenka of Tomball, Texas; her great grandchildren Madelyn, Dakota, Isabel, Jillian and Gunner Vezey of Mesa, Arizona and Hailey, Dylan and Layne Mikulenka of Tomball, Texas; her sister, Thomasine Bosworth of San Antonio, Texas; and many nieces and nephews. She loved music and was an accomplished piano teacher. She had a passion for reading and learning, displayed a constant curiosity about the world, and loved to share what she found with others, both in conversation and through a regular dissemination of her favorite newspaper clippings. Her many books are dog-eared and full of marginal notes and underscoring. She valued thrift, independence and genuineness in herself and others. She faced her death bravely and with unsurpassed dignity. She wanted what she had. She cherished her family. She greeted everyone with grace and warmth and put all at immediate ease. If she didn't know your name, she would call you "honey." She will be greatly missed and always remembered. A Memorial Service will be held at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home on December 21, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please donate to The Cure Alzheimer's Fund (curealz.org).
