Robert L. Dean

Obituary Condolences

ROBERT L. DEAN, SR. On October 11, 2012, the angels of God escorted Robert L. (Bob) Dean, Sr., a true American hero, gentleman, and wonderful father, to be face to face with the Lord Jesus Christ. Bob was born in McKeesport, PA on October 2, 1923, the only one in generations born north of the Mason-Dixon line. During the Depression his mother moved them eventually to Houston where he graduated from Austin High School and U of H. He participated in a special officers training program for the United States Marine Corps and received his commission as a second lieutenant in 1944. On Iwo Jima he was twice wounded and awarded the Silver Star. Following the war he spent 42 years as an engineer for Tennessee Gas (Tenneco). In 1948 he married Gloria Ann Schleier, for the next 54 years they lived in Houston.
As a young man he trusted in Jesus Christ as his Savior, the One who died to pay the penalty for his sin that he might have eternal life by faith alone in Christ alone. Jesus said, "I am the resurrection and the life, he who believes in Me, though he were dead, yet shall live." (John 11:25); Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life, no one comes to the Father, except by Me." (John 14:6).
Bob was preceded in death by his mother, Ethel Icee Mink Hensley, his wife, Gloria Ann Schleier Dean, and is survived by his son, Robert L. Dean, Jr., his nephews, Steve and Grady Schleier, and niece, Cynthia Schleier.
The memorial service will be Saturday, November 3, at 10:30 AM at West Houston Bible Church, 1500 West Sam Houston Parkway North, Houston, Texas 77043, Rev. Dr. Robert L. Dean, Jr. officiating. Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery, date to be announced. In lieu of flowers please send donations to West Houston Bible Church, Dean Bible Ministries, or Camp Peniel, 6716 E. FM 1431, Marble Falls, Texas 78654, dkiley@camppeniel.org.
