Sammie Rose Obituary

SAMMIE O'KELLEY ROSE passed away on June 28, 2009 at the age of 72. She was born on December 25, 1936 in Carthage, Texas. Sammie moved to Houston at the age of 7, where she resided until the year 2000, when she and her husband retired to Lake McQueeney, Texas. Sammie was married to Edward LaPorte Rose, Jr., CEO of Rose Supply Company. They were married for 49 years. Sammie graduated from Lamar High School and Rice University. She is preceded in death by her aunt and uncle who raised her, Louis and Arlene Higginbotham, and son Edward LaPorte Rose III "Trip." She was a very devout Catholic. Her hobbies included gardening and entertaining family and friends, as well as decorating her homes for all holidays. She was a devoted mother, wife, and a loyal friend to many. Sammie was nicknamed "Saint Sammie" by her children's friends. Sammie or "Gram" as her grandchildren called her is survived by her husband, Edward LaPorte Rose, Jr., four children and 8 grandchildren. Kelley Rose and her children, Maxwell Edward Mullins and Margaret Rose Mullins "Maggie," of McQueeney, Texas; Katy Rose Fry, and her husband Paul Taylor Fry, and their children Emily Elaine Fry, and Preston Taylor Fry of Hobbs, New Mexico; Kyle Edward Rose and his wife Anne Weitzel Rose, and their children Lauren Elisabeth Rose, and Benjamin Edward Rose of Houston, Texas; Kevin LaPorte Rose and his wife Christie Davenport Rose, and their children Grace Alexandra Rose and Reagan LaPorte Rose of Houston, Texas. The family wishes to acknowledge dear friends Betzy Griffin and Rosemary Krezdorn of Lake McQueeney, Texas. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with a rosary prayer service at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 7 at Earthman Funeral Directors, 8303 Katy Freeway. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 8 at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church, 6800 Buffalo Speedway. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude's Place, Memphis, TN 38105, Tribute Department, and Hope Hospice of New Braunfels, 611 N. Walnut Ave., New Braunfels, TX 78130 or to a charity of your choice.
