Sandra Kay Allen Sandy was gathered to Heaven on April 22, 2011. She was born on July 5, 1946 in Red Oak, Iowa, welcomed by her extended loving family. She was preceded in death by her husband Richard and brother Dennis. She is survived by her mother Kathryn (Katy) Slater and brother Alden.
Sandy and Richard (Dick) located to Houston from California in 1985 with Dow Chemical. Here, Sandy continued her career as an educator, teaching English at Jersey Village H.S. for 10 years. She nurtured a love of the arts as a patron of MFAH and in retirement in Florence and in Eugene, Oregon. She supported public libraries in Florence and in Red Oak, promoting reading and literature. Sandy devoted much love and effort to serving her church community in many ways, but the Fellowship Committee, the church kitchen, and serving dinners were her special devotion.
Known for her love of family and friends and for her generous habits in putting others before herself, Sandy will be greatly missed. She spread the joy of life and the love of Christ even in the last courageous months of a terrible health struggle.
A memorial service celebrating Sandy's life is planned for Saturday, April 30, 2011 at 3:30 P.M. at Spring Branch Presbyterian Church, 1215 Campbell Road, Houston, Texas 77055, 713-464-7659.
