Tom was a friend of mine at Stanford. We met in the Casa Italiana. He had a quick wit and an extraordinary ability to identify the essence of any issue or argument. He was a formidable intellect and, simultaneously, was also able to find humor in every situation. I'm sorry to hear he has passed away and will always remember him fondly.
