Utz Buford

Obituary
The Guest Book is expired.

Utz William Buford (Chief) passed away in Houston Texas at the age of 92. He was born in Oilton, Oklahoma to Joe and Emma Buford and was the oldest of the four siblings. His family settled in Bristow Oklahoma where Utz attended school and met his future wife, Virginia Senter. They were married in 1942 and enjoyed 68 years of marriage until Virginia's death in 2010.
Utz enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1942 and served on the U.S.S. Chenango as an Aviation Mechanic until his discharge in 1945. Following WWII the family moved to Texas and eventually settled in the Oak Forest community in Houston. Utz spent over 50 years working in geophysical drilling with the last 20 years of his career as owner of Buford Drilling Company. Utz developed many long term friendships with his employees and customers.
Utz was an avid golfer and belonged to the Fort Bend Country Club in Richmond, Texas. When their daughters had finished school, Utz and Virginia moved to be closer to the golf course and to all the wonderful friends they had in Richmond. Utz played football in high school and continued to love the game throughout his life. He also enjoyed hunting with friends and throwing an annual event they called the "Wild Beast Feast". Utz was a man among men and we will miss him.
Utz is survived by his daughters Kathy & husband Gary Clarke, Patricia Buford & husband Keith Markuson and Elizabeth & husband Chris Danna, 5 grandchildren, Kristi Traylor (Robert), David Clarke (Felicia), Christopher Danna (Sarah), Luke Danna and Courtney Danna and 7 great grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the staff and caregivers at Silverado Assisted Living - Cypresswood for the wonderful care they provided Utz. Also, we would like to give a loving and special thank you to our friend Terrance who has provided Utz and his family support for the last 3 years. A gathering of Utz's family and friends will be held at Cypress Fairbanks Funeral Home on May 24, 2013 at 4 to 6 pm. His final resting place will be the Houston National Cemetery.
