Wilbert Joseph Ford was born on April 17, 1945 in Houston, Texas to Wilbert Joseph Harris and Elizabeth Ford. Wilbert began his high school education at Phyllis Wheatley High School and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1963. He attended Texas Southern University for two years prior to enlisting in the U.S. Army, August 13, 1968.Wilbert served two-years in the military and in 1970 received an honorable discharge. His military career was exemplary, having distinguished himself by earning the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with three Bronze Stars, Purple Heart with one Oak Leaf Cluster, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry, Combat Infantry Badge, Bronze Star Medal, and the Expert (Rifle) National Defense Service Medal. Upon re-entering civillian life, Wilbert worked for the Merchant Trucking Company for thirty years. In 1998, he started his career with the United States Post Office as a truck driver. During his tenure at the Post Office, Wilbert acquired many friends and colleagues. Recognized by peers and superiors as a dedicated and dependable worker, he earned positions of responsibility throughout his career through his leadership skills, expertise and dependability. Wilbert leaves to mourn his passing, his beloved mother, Elizabeth Shaw, son and daughter-in-law, Michael T.Ford (Linda), grandson, Michael T. Ford,Jr. sister and brother-in-law, Lynzetta (Richard) Jones, brother, Wayman Shaw, brother, Ivory Harris, sister, Evelyn Bell and many other family members and friends. Wilbert, "Joe", also leaves to mourn his passing, the "love of his life" for the past fifteen years, Carolyn McElroy. Visitation Fri. 9am. Funeral 10am. Services will be held at Mt. Sinai B.C. 902 W. 8th. St. Interment V.A. Cemetery.
