He played the saxophone and clarinet in his youth and was a member of the New York 42nd Division National Guard Band. His 12 year career with Pan American Airways ended when he entered the insurance industry in Houston in1963, where he stayed until his retirement. Bill was a long-standing and active member of Rotary International. He took up cycling in his early 60's and loved the challenge, continuing until his eyesight prevented its continuance.
Jazz and classical music were his constant companions. He was a large man, who lived largely, with an unquenchable spirit. If desiring, memorials can be made to organizations about which he cared deeply: Classical radio station KUHA, 91.7, 4343 Elgin, Houston, TX 77204 or The Shepherd School of Music, MS532, Rice University, PO Box 1892, Houston, Texas 77251-1892 Attn: Memorial Gifts.
