Marion L. Foster, 86, passed away Tuesday, July 22, 2013 surrounded by his wife and children. He was born January 3, 1927, in Camden, Arkansas. He received a BBA from Southern Methodist University in 1951.
After distinguished service in the Navy, Marion began his career in Brownwood, TX with BF Goodrich. He then moved to Snyder, TX to work for Warren Petroleum, where he began a lengthy career in the oil and gas business. While there, his two children, Evelyn and Paul were born. He then moved to Lovington, NM where he was President of Yucca Water Company, a division of Newmont Oil, where he designed and operated oilfield waterflood systems. He then owned and operated three companies, all of which served the oil business; Lea Pumping Service, Mustang Construction and Lea/Mex Hot Oil Service. While in Lovington, Marion was very involved with the Rotary Club serving as President one year. He was also very involved with the Republican party of New Mexico where he served as Lea County Republican chairman. Marion enjoyed teaching young adults in Sunday School classes at First Baptist Church and Jackson Avenue Baptist Church. He also enjoyed fishing in the Red River.
Upon moving to Houston in 1984, Marion joined Tallowood Baptist Church where he attended faithfully and served as an usher. He enjoyed playing in the men's golf outings. His other main hobby was having coffee each morning. He had two coffee groups, the latest of which is referred to as "The Gang", where they discussed a variety of life's topics.
Marion fought a courageous battle with Leukemia for four long years, never complaining and always with a cheerful and encouraging spirit. The family would like to express their heart felt appreciation to the dedicated and compassionate doctors and staff at the Leukemia Department at MD Anderson.
Marion is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Geraldine Vick Foster; brother Hershel Foster; his two children Evelyn and Paul; grandchildren Hayley, Preston, Corbin and Kassi and great grandchildren Weston and Hudson. He is preceded in death by brothers Milton and John.
