Jack Wiewall

Jack Richardson Wiewall, 87, died on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at his home in Houston, Texas. Jack was born in Jersey City, New Jersey on August 26, 1926 to Leo Wiewall and Norma Winberry Wiewall. He graduated from Shippensburg High School in Shippensburg, PA at 16 and then Yale University at 19 where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. After graduation from college, he entered World War II where he served as a Lieutenant Junior Grade in the U.S. Navy and was the youngest commissioned officer in the Atlantic Fleet. He was awarded the American Area Medal and the Victory Medal. After discharge, he moved to San Tome, Venezuela with Creole Oil Corporation and continued to live and work there with Mena Grande Oil Corporation. While working in Venezuela, he met his wife to be Suzy Ingram who was there visiting her sister for the summer from Oklahoma City. Also while in Venezuela, he used his accumulated vacation time to earn a Masters in Chemical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley.
In 1953, he married Sylvia Susan Ingram. He is survived by his wife of 60 years Sue Wiewall and their three daughters; Katy Briscoe and husband Chuck Barry; Jackie McGreevy and husband Connelly both of Houston; and Elizabeth Wiewall of Austin; and his five grandchildren, Bradford Dillon Briscoe, Molly Catherine McGreevy, John Terrence McGreevy, Thomas Connelly McGreevy and Matthew William McGreevy. He is also survived by his brother Leo Wiewall of Columbus, Ohio.
He is preceded in death by his parents Leo and Norma Wiewall and his brothers Maitland and Bill Wiewall.
After 13 years in Venezuela, he returned to the states where he worked for Northern Natural Gas for 18 years in the Midwest. In 1978 he relocated to Houston where he was a consultant for Bechtel and Occidental Petroleum traveling all over the world until he founded his own natural gas pipeline business.
Jack's true loves were his family, tinkering in his workshop and fishing. Jack was a true engineer. Over the years Jack designed and built pipe factories, designed and built his own natural gas compressions systems, but his pride and joy was the dollhouse he designed and built for his grandchildren.
The memorial service is to be conducted at one o'clock in the afternoon on Tuesday, the 17th of December, in the Chapel of Second Baptist Church, 6400 Woodway Drive in Houston.
Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception to be held in the nearby Deacon's Parlor.
