Dorothy Halata Obituary
Dorothy Lillie
Rektorik "MeMe" Halata passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 11, 2014.
Born October 7, 1929 to George Rektorik and Lillie Koenning. It all began on a rolling hill in a Community called Moravia. Moravia is where she grew up, working the farm and acquiring a big distaste for the Texas summer heat. Dorothy's education started at Moravia Country School and then on to Schulenburg High School, where she was a Dancing Lariat, Violinist in the Orchestra, and then fittingly the Senior Sweetheart. "Hledam galanecku? " And she found her sweetheart, Bernard, dancing at Appelts Hill. They were married on October 10, 1949 and called Houston, Texas their home. She raised eight children, lived the Catholic Faith, and worked.
Dorothy was a founding and still very active member of the Catholic Community of St. Luke the Evangelist. She retired from JCPenny Almeda Mall in 1992. After becoming "MeMe & PaPa", Dorothy suffered the untimely death of her love "Barney". She moved on resiliently - cooking, sewing, taking care of her mother, watching the Astros, going to the casino, having family gatherings, and talking on the phone. She was a longtime active member of the Catholic Daughters of America, and once served as a local Regent. She loved gathering with her Bunco group, the H.U.G.S, St. Helen Super Seniors and Red Hat Ladies. It was Dorothy that resonated within her Faith, Family and Friendships.
Before succumbing at the age of 84 years, she was nurtured by her children and Fr. Desi on her journey into Heaven. Dorothy is preceded also in death by her son David and sister Darlyn. She is survived by her children - Mike & Linda, Richard & Celeste, Diane, Thomas, Mary & Walt, Regina & Dudley, Theresa & Bruce, and Mark & Cathy -23 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren. Visitation will be Thursday, February 13 from 5 PM to 7 PM with a recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7PM at Niday Funeral Home - 12440 Beamer. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, February 14 at 11:00 AM at the Catholic Community of St. Luke the Evangelist Church - 11011 Hall Road in Houston. The Rite of Committal will take place at 4 PM at Ascension of our Lord Cemetery in Moravia, Texas. Pallbearers are Bryce Halata, Brian Halata, David Halata Jr., Thomas Halata Jr., Mark Gardner Jr., DJ Rayner, Robert Howell and Tyler Stokley.
Mom - we'll miss your smile, your voice and your love. "Like I was going to say….."
