Jearl (Jerry) Nichols Obituary
Jearl (Jerry) Eugene Nichols was called by our Lord on Sunday, March 9, 2014. He was 71 years old. He fought a long and difficult battle with COPD that lasted more than a decade. He was a proud Texan, born in the west Texas town of Pampa.
His parents, Jearl and Lavaughn Nichols and sister Cynthia Nichols, preceded him in death.
Jerry was very proud of his 40 year wonderful career with Ford Motor Company. Anyone who knew Jerry knew that he worked for Ford Motor Company. Jerry himself was "Built Ford Tough". He had to be to fight COPD.
He graduated from West Texas University in Canyon, Texas with a degree in music and education. He was a member of the Four Flats Quartet and sang opera in several productions while in college. He continued singing but was most proud of his singing at his children's weddings.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 34 years, Joan Nichols. They moved to Houston, Texas in 1979, to build a life and raise a family together. Their children Randy Nichols, Melinda McPike, husband Steve; Robin Gordon, husband Justin; Joanne Thibodeau, husband Tom; Greg Smith, wife Carmen; and Scott Whitmore, wife Patti.
He was blessed with several grandchildren, Devin Smith, Samantha (Sam) Shackleford, Kyle Nichols and wife Kim, Amanda and Dylan Thibodeau, Jesus DeLeon and wife Patricia; Steve and Julissa Soto, Connor and Anna McPike, Elexis, Finley and Rowan Gordon, Jackie, Scotty and Cherie Whitmore. He also has two Great Grandchildren Abby DeLeon, and Kaden Nichols.
He is survived by two brothers, Larry Nichols, wife Cathy and Rick Nichols. As well as several loved nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Visitation will be Thursday March 13 from 6-8 p.m. at the Klein Funeral Home 16131 Champion Forest Drive, Spring, TX 77379
A memorial service will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Friday March 14 at Champions Forest Baptist Church 15555 Steubner-Airline, Houston, TX 77069.
