Mildred Dill

Obituary Condolences

Mildred Rebecca "Becky" Dill, passed away Friday, the 14th of March, 2014, at the age of 97, in Houston. She was born on the 17th of May, 1916, at the family home in Monroe City, Missouri. She attended Stephens College, then studied violin and graduated with a music degree from Northwestern University. In the fall of 1938, she began teaching music and directing the band and orchestra at Houston's Lanier Junior High School. While teaching, she met Frank Dill, who had graduated from Rice Institute and was beginning a career in architecture. They married on the 26th of June, 1941. They spent their early years, like so many of the Greatest Generation, traveling from one naval station to another. After World War II, they returned to Houston, where they resided and raised their family.
Mildred was an active member of South Main Baptist Church for 66 years, where she taught the 2-year-old class for about 30 years. She was also a 79 year member of the PEO Sisterhood, as well as a member of the Delta Delta Delta Sorority. Additionally, she loved the Tuesday Musical Club, and was a member of their sextet in the 60's and 70's.
Mildred is preceded in death by her husband Frank Dill, her parents Thomas and Eleanor Scott Dawson, and her brother Wilfred Scott Dawson. She is survived by two children: her son Thomas Scott Dill and wife Kris, and her daughter Eleanor Dill Harper and husband Steve; four grandchildren: Jennifer and Corbin Dill, Scott Harper, and Rebecca Harper Reneau and her husband David; and great-granddaughter, Arden.
The family would also like to thank Clora Ann Butler and Vera Scott for their many years of faithful service and assistance to the family.
A memorial service is to be conducted at two o'clock in the afternoon on Thursday, the 20th of March, in the Westmoreland Chapel of South Main Baptist Church, 4100 Main Street, in Houston, where Dr. Steve Wells, Pastor, is to officiate.
Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception.
At a later date, the family will gather for a private interment in St. Jude's Cemetery in Monroe City, MO.
In lieu of customary remembrances, contributions in Becky's memory may be directed to the Westmoreland Chapel Renovation Fund, South Main Baptist Church, 4100 Main, Houston, TX, 77002.
