Barry Morris Obituary
Barry Gordon Morris ,55, a loving husband, father, brother and son died unexpectedly on Thursday, April 3, 2014 in Wenatchee, Washington.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Susan Vaughn Morris; his daughters, Hannah Margaret Morris and Barbara Jane Morris; his sister, Beverly Jane Morris; his brother, Bruce "Chip" Morris and his mother, Martha Jane Armentrout.
He was born on November 2, 1958 in Grove City, Pennsylvania to Martha Jane and Charles Decker Morris, but lived most of his life in Austin, Texas before he and Susan made their home in Houston. He was a graduate of L.C. Anderson High School in Austin and a 1981 graduate of Texas Christian University in Fort Worth.
After graduation, Barry first served at Tenneco Inc. becoming the Executive Assistant to the CEO and Chairman of the Board. He then became Director of Finance at Project GRAD in 1997 which started his affiliations with charitable organizations. After becoming a Chartered Financial Analyst, he was named Controller for the Houston Community Foundation. In 2003, he became the Chief Financial Officer with the Heartspring Methodist Foundation. His latest "adventure" as he called it, was becoming the CFO for the Northwest United Methodist Foundation in Cashmere, Washington.
His love of the Lord and his giving spirit was evident throughout his life. Whether it was using his extensive musical talent to direct or play in youth praise bands, serving on church committees, furthering educational opportunities in Houston or helping collect food for the homeless, Barry could always be counted on to help others. He was most recently affiliated with Pines Presbyterian Church in Houston. Barry lived his life to help others. His most recent endeavor was supporting public school teachers in their quest for respect as professionals. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him or whose life he touched.
The family will be receiving friends on Wednesday, April 9, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Pat H. Foley Funeral Home located at 1200 West 34th Street, Houston, Texas 77018. A celebration of Barry's life will be held in the Chapel at Pat H. Foley Funeral Home on Thursday, April 10, 2014 beginning at 11:00 a.m.
