Emma Butler Obituary
Emma Lou Wilson Butler, age 87, died Wednesday, the 9th of March 2014, in Houston, where she and her husband Dr. James H. Butler III had lived for 11 years. She was born the 3rd of February 1927, in Salina, Kansas, to John H. and Emma Freeman Wilson.
She graduated from Washington High School, and attended Marymount College, both in Salina. She lived in Salina through the end of World War II, and then traveled to Seattle and Denver. She finished her BA in English at Loretto Heights University, Denver. She received a MA in English from the University of Texas at the Permian Basin in Odessa, Texas.
Mrs. Butler was a real estate broker in Midland, Texas, and she and her husband Dr. Butler, a geologist, traveled the world in connection with the family petroleum exploration business, including stints in Mexico, Australia, China and Argentina. She and Dr. Butler lived for a year at the Injune Motel in the 1980s, in Queensland, Australia during the initial development of the Fairview CSM Field.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Butler and their son, John Patrick Butler. She is survived by their son, James H. Butler Jr. of Houston; and six grandchildren: James H. Butler V, Anne Butler, and Catherine Butler, John Michael Butler, Sarah Butler, and Christopher Butler.
Her family and friends will miss Emma Lou's charm, mischievous sense of humor and devotion to her late husband, Dr. Butler.
A memorial service is to be conducted at three o'clock in the afternoon on Friday, the 9th of May, in the chapel of The Church of St. John the Divine, 2450 River Oaks Boulevard in Houston. A reception will follow immediately afterwards.
