Dorothy Andrews Obituary
Dorothy Marie Harnden Andrews, 90, of Houston, went to be with our lord on May 8, 2014. Born on June 28, 1923, in Yoakum, Texas, to the late Charles Henry "Harry" Harnden and Inda Leslie (Young) Harnden.
She was preceded in death by sisters, Sybil Joice (Harnden) Ene of Washington, DC, Eva Ruth (Harnden) Hanus of Skidmore, and Inda Maude (Harnden) Harmon of Santa Barbara. She is survived by her sister, Anna Nelle (Harnden) Vetterick of Houston; adopted son, Charles S. Andrews of L.A.; nephew, Roy Gene Hanus and wife, Debra of Beeville; niece, Alene (Hanus) Hensley and husband, F. Carl Hensley of San Antonio.
Dorothy was a self educated Structural Designer who worked for engineering firms in San Antonio and Houston, including Dow Chemical. She began her career as a draftsman during World War II. She designed homes and commercial buildings throughout Texas and Louisiana. Among her unique designs were notable homes in a Historic District, Houston's Glenbrook Valley.
Dorothy was a devoted member of the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany, where she will take her final rest in the Columbarium of the Church, 9600 S. Gessner Dr., Houston, where a Memorial Service is scheduled for 4:00 p.m., Saturday, July 26, 2014.
