Sharon passed away on May 31, 2014 after a long and brave battle with cancer. We will all miss her smiles, her beautiful voice, her optimistic attitude and her deep love for her family and friends.
Sharon was born April 10, 1954 in Shreveport, Louisiana. She was married June 26, 1976, to Ron Grimes for 38 wonderful, loving years. They had one son, John Grimes, Baylor Class of 2014.
In 1972 Sharon graduated from Sharpstown High School in Houston. In 1976 she earned a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and Music from the University of Houston. In 1978 she and her mother graduated together from Sam Houston State University after they each earned their Master of Library Science degree. While at the University of Houston she was a member of Phi Mu Sorority and remained very active in the local Phi Mu Alumni Association. She was also a member of the College Women's Club, serving in several roles including the scholarship committee.
During her professional career, Sharon worked in HISD as a classroom teacher, music teacher and librarian at Douglas Elementary and Pat Neff Elementary (Houston). She later worked in LCISD at Lamar Junior High (Rosenberg) as a librarian, retiring in 2004.
A former member of Sharpstown Baptist Church in Houston, she was a member of the First Baptist Church in Rosenberg for almost 20 years. At First Baptist Rosenberg she served as Church Librarian and sang in the Sanctuary Choir. Sharon had a lovely voice and worshipping through song was an important part of her life. In addition to the local church choir, she was a member of the Prime Time Singers of West University Baptist Church and Singing Women of Southeast Texas, taking part in many concerts around Texas.
Sharon was an active Boy Scout leader in the Brazos District. She served in various District Committee roles as well as in unit leadership roles at Pack 941 and Troop 941 in Fulshear. She was a Brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow, completed SR 571 Wood Badge training as a member of the Antelope patrol, and she attended the 2005 National Jamboree a Fort A. P. Hill, Virginia. One of her proudest moments was watching her son receive his Eagle Award. She was also an amateur radio operator (N5RQO), a Life Member of the Outdoor Nature Club and she enjoyed traveling with her family.
Sharon is survived by her husband, Ron Grimes and her son John Grimes of Richmond; her mother Jo Ann Farmer Sanders, one brother, David Sanders, and one sister and brother-in-law Jennifer and Rick Jefferson, all of Houston; her in-laws J.T. and June Grimes of Goodrich, Texas, and Myers and Leah Pace of Chester, Texas; two uncles and aunts, Bill and Martha Farmer of Shreveport, Louisiana, and Frank and Zelma McMillan of Warren, Texas; nephews including Matthew, Patrick and Andrew Jefferson, nieces, cousins, and friends.
