Obituary Condolences Flowers

Eddie Joe Riley, 79, a seventh generation Texan, and a resident of Friendswood since 1964, passed away peacefully May 23, 2014. Attending West Texas State College in Canyon, TX, he was a member of ROTC and upon graduating in 1956, was commissioned 2nd LT in the US Army Reserve. He served two years active duty in Formosa (Taiwan). During his career in USAR he graduated from the Command and General Staff College, Ft. Leavenworth, KS, and became an instructor with the 4151st USAR School in Houston. After 28 years in the US Army Reserve, he retired as LTC in 1994.
Ed began his civilian career with Melabs in Palo Alto, CA, before joining Lockheed Missiles and Space Company in 1960 in Sunnyvale, CA, involved with the Polaris missile. He transferred with LMSC to Houston in 1963 to work on the space program at the Manned Spacecraft Center (JSC). He worked with all of America's space programs and also oversaw the installation of electronic weapons systems aboard the battleship USS Iowa as it was refitted for service in the first Gulf War. He was employed with various Lockheed companies until he retired from Lockheed Martin in 1999 after 39 ½ years.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Lewis and Fay Reese Riley; sister, Nancy McKinney; brother, Lewis B. Riley; brother-in-law, Weldon McKinney. Survivors include: wife, Patricia; son, Vance (Ann); daughter, Dana; son, Brennan; sister, LaVerne (Harold) Hendrick; sister-in-law Janet Riley; grandchildren, J. Luke Riley, Katherine Riley; step-grandchildren, Timothy (Mallory) Tesch; Michael Castner; step-great-grandchild, Landon Tesch. Beloved nephews, Joel McKinney, Terry McKinney, Greg Hendrick, Kirk Hendrick and Daryl Riley.
A memorial service will be conducted Saturday, June 21, 2014, at 2 p.m. at the Jeter Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, 311 N. Friendswood Dr., Friendswood, TX, 77546, Chaplain Les Fenter officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in memory of Eddie J. Riley to Friendswood VFD-EMS Division, 1000 S. Friendswood Drive, Friendswood, TX 77546 or in memory of LTC Eddie J. Riley to Army Emergency Relief, 200 Stovall Street, Alexandria, VA, 22332-0600.
