Charles (Chuck) Lewis Messler, 77, of Houston, Texas and Long Valley, New Jersey passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 12, 2014 at The Village at Gleannloch Farms in Spring, Texas.
Chuck was born on May 24, 1937 to George W. and Lyla Doris Morgan Messler of Fairmont, New Jersey. He graduated from Hackettstown High School (NJ) in 1954. He received a BS degree in chemical engineering in 1958 from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, where he was a member of Theta Xi fraternity.
He married Gretchen Gray Mauermann in 1960, in McAllen, Texas and has one daughter, Elizabeth Gray Messler, who survives him.
After graduation from college, Chuck served with the Air Force as a pilot, retiring in 1965 with the rank of Captain. Soon thereafter, he began a career in the oil and gas industry as an engineer with Jefferson Chemical Company in Port Neches, Texas and later worked for the parent company, Texaco, in the Houston office. During his career, Chuck also worked for Houston Oil and Minerals, Olympia Petroleum, and Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company. He leaves many lifelong friends in the oil and gas industry.
After retiring, he maintained homes in Houston as well as Long Valley, New Jersey and had many friends in each location.
A memorial service honoring Chuck's life will be held on June 21, 2014 at 1:00 pm at the Addison Funeral Home, 18630 Kuykendahl Road, Spring, Texas 77379. At a later date, a service will be held in Long Valley, NJ. He will be interred in the family plot in Union Cemetery in Hackettstown, NJ.
