Thomas M. Muhleman, beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away peacefully Monday afternoon July 7th in the presence of Inez, his wife of 68 years and sons Tom Jr. and Richard Muhleman. Tom was born August 17th, 1919 in Bridgeport, Ohio where he was raised with his older sister Alberta and younger sister Jude. He attended and graduated from Muskingum College, New Concord, Ohio with a degree in Economics and was a fraternity brother of Astronaut/Senator John Glenn.|
Tom served his country with distinction for seven years during WWII and the Korean War achieving the rank of Captain of the U. S. Army Finance Corps. He met and married his bride Inez, also a U.S. Army Captain during their service in World War II. After earning an MBA from Harvard Business School, Tom enjoyed a successful 38 year career with the Gulf Oil Corporation, retiring as General Manager of U.S. Marketing Division in 1983.
Tom was an avid golfer and spent many of his adult years enjoying the game, including achieving 3 holes-in-one. He thrived on lively banter with close friends at clubs across the country, and especially at Riverbend Country Club in Sugar Land, Texas where he served as a Board Member and Club President. He was a long time member of Memorial Drive United Methodist Church. Tom was an honest, intelligent man with a wonderful sense of humor who enjoyed sharing good times with his family and friends. He was loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed.
Tom is survived by his wife, Inez ('Nez) Roberts Muhleman; eldest son Thomas (Tom) M. Muhleman, Jr., son Richard (Rick) C. Muhleman; Granddaughter Kristin M. Muhleman of Katy, Texas; sisters Alberta Adams, Naples, FL, Julia Gooding Rippe, Vero Beach, FL and by several beloved nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service celebrating Tom's life will be held Friday, July 11, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Memorial Drive United Methodist Church, 12955 Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77079. A reception will follow the service in Friendship Court on the church grounds. A private graveside service was held at the VA Houston National Cemetery in Houston.
