He was a devoted father and family man. He was married to his first wife, Stephanie Knight, with whom he had two children, Colin Rudd and Erin Rudd, both of Houston. Richard was married to his second wife, Mary L. Carolan at the time of his passing. Richard had a stepson, James Carolan of Broomfield, Colorado.
Richard's highest priority was always his family, including coaching many of his children's sports teams from grade school through high-school. Richard had a deep respect and passion for the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting. He loved spending time at the deer lease and enjoying nature.
Richard received a Bachelor of Science in Economics, Political Science, and Management Science by age 21 (1976) and went on to obtain a masters in accounting in 1977, both from Rice University. He was a Certified Public Accountant. Following graduation, Richard pursued an early and prestigious career in accounting at a major firm, Peat Marwick, and later formed Streater, Rudd, and Peters.
After an accomplished accounting career, Richard brought his passion to a highly successful second career in national real estate capital markets with Eastdil, and has been involved in benchmarking real estate transactions and leadership roles since the mid-80's. His acumen and sage advice were sought by many of the largest real estate owners across the country. He was generous with his time and intellect and was a mentor to many people in the industry.
In 2009, Richard and his two partners, Mary L. Carolan and Kent R. Peters formed Allied Advisors, a boutique, client-based real estate transactions firm, where he served as President. Richard was very proud of the boutique level service that Allied has provided to a select client list.
