Beverly Parnell Obituary
Beverly Robinson Parnell, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, mentor, friend died on the 26th of July, 2014. She was 87 years young. Beverly was born April 4, 1927, in Houston, Texas, the daughter of Spencer Wade Robinson and Thelma Marie Brickey Robinson. She graduated from Lamar High School in Houston and attended Southwestern University in Georgetown where she met her husband. She was an active member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority. She married at 19 years of age and later became the mother of three. A dream of hers was to eventually return to college to complete her studies. So, juggling all the responsibilities of wife and mother, Beverly attended the University of Houston where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Education.
Beverly was an active member of St. John the Divine Episcopal Church in Houston, where she became a Stephen Minister. Stephen's Ministry is a program designed to "equip and empower lay caregivers to provide high quality, confidential, Christ-centered care to people who are hurting." That is who Beverly was. She loved her Church and its people, but mostly she loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and it showed in every aspect of her life. She asked God each and every morning to meet her loved ones "at the hour of their greatest need" during that day. How reassuring that extra covering of protection was!
From sliding down the banister in her childhood home, horseback riding along Memorial Drive on her way to high school, hitting a mean backhand on the tennis court, to exploring the Holy Land, Beverly embraced life with vigor. She could make any place feel like home, even an old bus on weekends while a small cabin had yet to be built on the family ranch in La Grange, Texas. Her family was her life and she found her greatest joys in the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren. There never was a more devoted wife and mother.
Beverly is survived by her daughter, Joan, and her two sons, Spencer and Everett; her son, James, and daughter-in-law, Dana, and their son, Sean; daughter-in-law, Sharon; sister, Brooks; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her loving husband, John, and her son, John, Jr., both with whom she now rejoices in her new Heavenly home. She also leaves behind many close friends with whom she shared her faith, her hope, and at times, her wisdom.
What a blessing Beverly was to all who knew her. She was a true lady in every sense of the word. She embraced everyone she met with kindness and love. We will all miss her strength and her gentle spirit. Beverly fought the good fight, she finished the race, she kept The Faith.
The family wishes to acknowledge their appreciation to everyone at Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston, for their assistance and services provided during this time. A formal dinner with family and friends in celebration of Beverly's life was held at seven o'clock in the evening on Thursday, July 31, 2014, at Brennan's of Houston. She was remembered fondly with numerous tributes and stories from those who loved and knew her well. The interment was conducted at one o'clock in the afternoon on Friday, August 1, at Houston National Cemetery with The Rev. Dr. Douglas W. Richnow of St. John the Divine Episcopal Church officiating. Beverly was laid to rest alongside her husband. John.
Honorary Pallbearers included Mr. James Parnell, Master Sean Parnell, Mr. Everett Coleman, Mr. Jay Stanford, and Mr. Matt Mabray.
