Gayle Westmoreland Obituary
Gayle Warren "Wes" Westmoreland was born on August 8, 1926 in Prescott, Arkansas and went to be with his Lord on Gayle's 88th birthday, August 8, 2014 in Spring, Texas. His parents were William Samuel and Frances Lenora Westmoreland. He was the youngest of 12 children, all of whom lived to celebrate their golden wedding anniversaries.
Gayle and his family moved from the Arkansas family home to Houston when he was three years old. After graduating from Lamar High School, he served in the Army Air Corps during WWII, and then obtained a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from The University of Houston while working full time. He was registered by examination in Texas in 1955, and was a life member of both the Texas and National Societies of Professional Engineers. In 1962 Wes formed Westmoreland Engineering Sales Company, to represent (market) primarily high voltage electrical equipment. He, with very able help from his wife and daughter and a small sales staff and, of course, his principals, operated the business until 1994. At that time, the business was purchased by one of his former employees, but he continued to act as a consultant until his retirement.
Wes is survived by his wife of 66 years, Marjory, his daughter Suzanne and spouse Harry Smith, his son David Westmoreland, grandson William Rowell and spouse Jenna, granddaughters Marjorie and Julia Westmoreland, and grandsons Wells and Blevins Westmoreland. The grandchildren and their parents were the pride of his life. He is also survived by his brother, George Henson Westmoreland and his wife Millie of Seal Beach, California, and by numerous nieces and nephews.
Gayle was a loving Christian husband, father, and grandfather, and he served in many capacities in his places of worship.
A memorial service will take place at Memorial Drive United Methodist Church, 12955 Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas on Saturday, August 23, 2014 at 2:00 PM. For more information, contact Klein Funeral Home 281-351-7233.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Gayle may be directed to the Salvation Army, the Houston Area Parkinson Society, or The University of Houston Electrical Engineering Department.
