Cunningham Fielder passed away at her home in Austin, Texas, on August 23, 2014.
Wanda was born on January 8, 1937, to Orville Rudolph and Pauline Jones Cunningham in Quemado, Texas. Wanda began school in Quemado and eventually graduated from Spur High School. She was then accepted to Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. She graduated in 1956 with a degree in mathematics.
Following graduation, Wanda went to work for Shell Oil Company where she worked in both Midland, Texas, and Casper, Wyoming.
While in Midland, Wanda met Garland Fielder and they were married in Midland and moved to Houston, Texas. While in Houston, Wanda gave birth to her daughter, Laura Elisabeth Fielder and then to Trey Fielder. Wanda loved cooking, spending time outdoors, gardening, photography and art. In 1993, Wanda moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico where she enjoyed the New Mexican life style, culture and art.
In 1995, Wanda returned to Texas and capitalized on her gardening, building design and interior decoration talents, uniquely impacting the Austin real estate market with notable fashion and flair. She was an activist with the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center and up until her passing, she was an avid photographer, bird watcher, collector of unique art, and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
Wanda was preceded in death by her father Orville Cunningham and mother Pauline Cunningham. She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Rudy and Nita Cunningham; daughter, Laura Fiedler; son, Trey Fielder and his wife Masumi; and three grandchildren, Saylor, Raina and Kai.
A ceremony to celebrate Wanda's life will be held at Weed-Corey-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 North Lamar Blvd. in Austin, Texas, on August 27th, Wednesday at 4 PM. A reception will follow at Manuel's restaurant, 310 Congress Ave. beginning at 5:30 PM.
