Obituary Condolences

Funeral services for LELA MAE (Tiny) GARRETT SCHOPPE, 88, of Magnolia will be held on Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at 10 a.m. at the Woodland Place Baptist Church in Magnolia with Rev. Gary Ladd officiating. Interment will follow at the Chapel in the Park Mausoleum, Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation is Monday, August 25, 2008 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Cashner Funeral Home. Lela Mae was born on May 10, 1920 in Sherman, Texas, and entered His Presence on August 22, 2008. In 1947, she married Milton H. (Buddy) Schoppe and they were blessed with two daughters, Linda and Lana. She began her teaching career in a one-room schoolhouse in the Big Creek Community near Caldwell, Texas and then taught school in the Providence Community the following two years. She attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth for two years, North Texas Agricultural College (the University of Texas at Arlington) for two years, and received her bachelor's degree from the University of Houston in 1961. She taught in the Houston Independent School District for many years and in the Magnolia Independent School district until her retirement. Lela Mae dedicated her life to serving her Lord and Savior in various capacities at her church. She bestowed a cherished legacy to her loved ones and will be sorely missed, but not ever forgotten. Lela Mae was preceded in death by her husband, Milton H. (Buddy) Schoppe, her parents, Lela Calvin and Clarence Gary Garrett, a brother, William S. Garrett and wife, Ruth, of Biloxi, Mississippi, a sister, Annie E. Peyton and husband, Luther, of Hearne, Texas, and a brother-in-law, Richard Sydney Kelley of Fort Worth, Texas. Her survivors include one sister, Dorothy Poe Garrett Kelley of Fort Worth, Texas, daughter Linda June Sanders and husband Bob of Bryant, Arkansas, and daughter Lana Lane Bartosh and husband Michael of Montgomery, Texas. Grandchildren include Tammy Bennett and husband, Geoff, of Little Elm, Bobby Sanders and wife, Melissa, of Benton, Arkansas, Kevin Sanders of Memphis, Tennessee, Lindy Johnston and husband, Max, of Bryant, Arkansas, Anne Damron of Denton and Katharine Damron of Lewisville. Great-grandchildren include Raegan and Avery Bennett of Little Elm and Evan and Caroline Sanders of Benton, Arkansas. Lela Mae's loving caretakers were Lupita Castelain and Rose Brown. She was blessed with a host of other loving family members and friends.
