SUSAN "SUSIE" CALDWELL COX was born on May 4, 1956. She went into the arms of our Lord this Wednesday, December 17, 2008. Susie was a native Houstonian, schooling at Lamar High and the University of Houston. A need for order drove her so it was no surprise that she worked accounting for several businesses before turning to help her husband's small business in the 1990's up until to the present. Susie was starting a catering business at the request of many of her friends and enjoyed entertaining large crowds. In the 1990's, Susie became a Christian and soon after joined Sugar Land First UMC. Here her need for order and her drive for innovation, developed from her hand work and cooking hobbies, took root and blossomed. Susie felt the need to organize groups of volunteers in order to help people with setbacks in their lives. This surfaced in her greatest passion after the devastation of Hurricane Rita. She joined the churches efforts and soon became one of the first 24 nationally certified trainers for the United Methodist Church's Committee on Relief, where she was also appointed to the Texas Conference's Committee on Relief helping in the Hurricane Ike relief effort when she took ill. Susie is survived by her husband of 32 years, DeWitt W. Cox of Sugar Land; brothers, Jon Caldwell and his wife Jan, Fred Caldwell and his wife Bobbie; Clay Caldwell and his wife Rebecca with their two children Ellyse and Josh; her father, Mac Caldwell and his wife Marney. Susie has several cousins, aunts and uncles in the Dallas-Fort Worth area as well as Nashville Tennessee and the ancestral home in Monroe La. A Celebration of Susie's Life will be held at 1:30 PM on Saturday, December 20, 2008 at Sugar Land First United Methodist Church, 431 Eldridge, Sugar Land, TX. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the "Angels Among Us" fund at SLFUMC, 431 Eldridge, Sugar Land, TX 77478.
