KATHERINE "KITTY" ROBERTS VEGA GAY joined her Lord in Heaven on Monday, January 19th 2009. Kitty was born Katherine Elizabeth Smith on April 22, 1921 in Alhambra, California and moved to Houston, Texas as a child. She was preceded to Glory by her mother, Bessie Bernice Arbuckle Smith Grimes; father, William Walter Smith; sister Doris Erdman; and beloved husbands Lonnie F. Roberts, Sr., (the father of her children); and Julian Vega. She is survived by her four children: daughter Mary Beth Bacarisse and husband, Jerry of California; daughter Barbara Waddell and husband, Bill of Houston; son Lonnie F. Roberts Jr. of Florida; and daughter K. "Jeanni" Silvestain and husband Ed of Houston. She was proud of her nine grandchildren, Robynn Roemer and husband Kirk, Chris Freeman and wife, Jennifer, Lonnie E. Roberts and family; Amanda Clarke and husband, "Cy"; Preston Roberts and wife Kelly; Justin Roberts, Aaron Milligan, Nathan Milligan and Lisa Bacarisse. Her joy was completed by her great-grandchildren, Skylar, Gavin and Braden Roemer, Haley and Chelsea Freeman, Audrey Clarke; Cameron, Nathaniel, Georgia, and Isaac Roberts. Kitty's lovely voice and giving spirit brought joy to many children and church members whom she deeply loved. She had a heart and great love for children. Kitty invested her lifetime teaching children. She taught Sunday school at Broadway Baptist Temple and Meadowbrook Baptist Church. She also taught bible school out her home to neighborhood children. Kitty sang her first solo at the age of five and went live on the radio with her sisters at the age of sixteen. She will be remembered for always using her talent for the Lord. Most recently she was a member of First Baptist Church of South Houston. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 23, 2009 from 6-8 pm at Forest Park East Funeral Home. Service will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2009 at 2 pm in the Chapel of Forest Park East Funeral Home. Interment to follow at Forest Park East Cemetery.
