Obituary Condolences

FREDERIC MANDEL, PH.D., passed away unexpectedly on Monday, November 2nd, 2009 at the age of 68. He is survived by his wife Elena, and his daughters Sasha and Nina. Dr. Mandel's scientific and teaching career began at UC Berkeley, followed by a doctorate in theoretical physical chemistry from the University of Kansas. He subsequently trained at Rice University and Baylor College of Medicine before becoming an Assistant Professor at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. He worked at The Upjohn Company to develop drugs for the treatment of heart disease. He recently continued his scientific work at Baylor College of Medicine and at the University of Cincinnati while also currently teaching mathematics at Elkins High School. Fred loved sports, especially volleyball, soccer, and tennis.Visitation will be Thursday November 5th at 5 PM followed by a Memorial Service celebrating Fred's life at 6 PM: Levy Funeral Directors, 4525 Bissonnet St., Bellaire, TX 77401.
