Obituary Condolences

RUTH FAULKNER BATES, born on July 18, 1922, went home to her Lord and Savior on May 3, 2010 at 3:00 P.M. in the afternoon, after suffering a stroke/heart attack on April 25.She grew up on a farm, one of twelve children, six girls and six boys, born to Elmer and Maybelle McCleskey. They lived in a log cabin without running water or electricity. The land produced abundant crops and all the children lived to adulthood.Ruth was the beloved mother of six children: Mildred Joyce Roper, Johnny Elmer Duke (now deceased), Billy Gene Duke (now deceased), Janice Marie Auxier (now deceased), George Douglas Faulkner and Mavis Darline Faulkner. She had eleven grandchildren: Beverly Lynn Nichols, Randall Lee Roper, Bridgette Beardsley, Joni Viebrock, Terri Hemphill, Mildred "Honey" Miles, Jaime Burgess, Monica Maples, Michael Faulkner, Courtney Ruth Chambers, and Matt Douglas Chambers. She was a Great Grandmother to fifteen, and a Great, Great Grandmother to four. She had a great love for children, particularly babies and she did her best to spoil all of them. She was a wonderful cook and everyone looked forward to holidays and birthdays at Nanny Ruth's!She loved to garden and couldn't wait to get the soil tilled in the spring. She had a green thumb and could get most everything to grow from a seed or a cutting. She was a good fisherman, too. She was very patient and usually knew just where the big ones were hiding out. She loved to feed the catfish so she could catch a really good sized one.She had a great sense of humor and kept family and friends in stitches with her dry wit and sharp comments. You never had to guess how she felt about anything because she would tell you straight out.She was above all a woman who loved God and her fellow man and was faithful in sharing the gospel with whoever would listen. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her.A viewing will be held at Rosewood Funeral Home in New Caney from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening May 6, 2010 and Funeral Services will be held in the chapel at Rosewood at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 7, 2010. She will be laid to rest in Morgan Cemetery in Fostoria, Texas.
