BERNARD JOSEPH "JOE" PORTELE, of Houston and Montgomery, TX, born July 27, 1951, was caught up in the twinkling of an eye to be with his Lord on Friday, May 28, 2010 while on a trail ride in Bandera, TX.Joe was the 8th of 10 children of Fred and Connie Portele of Houston. He was a 1969 graduate of St. Thomas H.S. and the owner of Specialty Press in Houston for 20+ years.Joe had many passions. He was a fisherman, hunter, pilot/instructor, cowboy, trail rider, cook-off team member, and fine country-western dancer but most importantly he was a son, brother, godfather, uncle and friend. Joe is survived by his 5 brothers: Fred and sister-in-law, Cheryl; Jerry and wife, Sara; Hank and wife, Janie; Michael and wife, Cathy, and George and wife, Barbara; four sisters: Connie Portele, Joan Roden, Margaret Roden and Eileen and husband, Harold Howell, 2 generations of nieces and nephews as well as his innumerable great friends, whom he considered family.Visitation and rosary will be held beginning at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 3, 2010, & funeral mass will be conducted Friday, June 4th at 10:30 a.m. both at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Plantersville, TX. Honorary Pallbearers: Joe's brothers Fred, Jerry, Hank, Michael, & George Portele, & brother-in-law, Harold Howell. Burial will follow at Forest Park Lawndale, Houston.
