Jack Lee Dunaway, age 90, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on February 8, 2011. He was born on March 23, 1920 in Tuttle, OK, the son of Margaret and William Dunaway. Jack served his country as a combat engineer in the Army during the Allied Invasion of Europe in WWII. After the war he married Viola Beatrice Nunn in 1945, who preceded him in death in 1962. He earned Electrical and Mechanical Engineering degrees from Oklahoma State University, and in his early career he worked for Dallas Power & Light. He married Mary Allen McKenney in 1964, and they both worked for and retired from Bechtel of Houston, then moved to Lewisville, TX.
Jack remained active by working for the City of Lewisville at the Lake Park toll gate from 1996 until October, 2010. The Mayor honored him on his 90th birthday by declaring March 23, 2010 as 'Jack Dunaway Day.' His coworkers and daily drives through the park remained his lifeline to the very end. He enjoyed boating, fishing, gardening and was the ultimate fix it man.
He was preceded in death by his parents, eight brothers and sisters, and in 2002 by his wife, Mary. He is survived by one brother, Carl Jackson and wife Betty of Greenville, TX, his children, Jack Dunaway and wife Debbie of Greensburg, PA, Jill Fogle and husband Mike of Denton, TX, Michelle Griffin and husband Wayne of Highland Village, TX, Mike McKenney and wife Dawn of Onalaska, TX and Kent McKenney and wife Cindy of Lewisville, TX, fourteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
