William Paul Weghorst, 88, of Marietta, Georgia, passed away peacefully from this life on April 4, 2011.
Born in Washington County, Texas on July 7, 1922 to Charlie and Maggie Weghorst, he lived in Brenham, Texas where he owned and operated Weghorst Floral Co. for 25 years. He had been residing in Marietta, Georgia for 25 years. He was a graduate of Brenham High School and attended Texas A&M University.
Bill served in World War II in the European Theatre of Operations, and received the Bronze Star Medal from the 29th Division of the US Army after the invasion of Omaha Beach during the war.
Bill was a member of the American Society of Landscape Architects, the Texas Society of Landscape Architects, The Georgia Society of Landscape Architects, and was a certified Landscape Architect and Nurseryman.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Maggie Weghorst, and his wife of 50 years, Lucille Gregory Weghorst. Survivors include daughters Wendy Harvey and husband Rick of Coldspring, Texas; Kathy Weghorst of Marietta, Georgia; sons Bill Jr. and wife Joan of Eatonton, Georgia; Greg and wife Sherri of Hewitt, Texas, and Kurt Weghorst of Acworth, Georgia; grandchildren: Chris Dahse, Greg Weghorst, Jr., Jake Weghorst, Kelsey Weghorst, Trey Weghorst, Megan Weghorst, Amy Weghorst, and Jessica Weghorst, and one great-grandchild, Tatum Weghorst.
A visitation will be held at Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 West Main, Brenham on Saturday, April 9, 2011 beginning at 2:00 p.m., and interment in Prairie Lea Cemetery will follow at 4:00 p.m.
