Huey P. Meaux , 82, of Winnie, Texas, died Saturday, April 23, 2011 at his residence.
Mr. Meaux was born March 10, 1929 in Wright, Louisiana, with the family moving to Winnie, Texas in 1940. He was preceded in death by his parents, Tetan and Mable Thompson Meaux, both of Winnie, Texas.
Survivors include one son, Ben Meaux, of Cottonport, Louisiana; brother, Larry W. Meaux, Sr. and his wife Delta of Winnie; nephew, Larry W. Meaux, Jr. of Winnie, and Tulsa, Oklahoma; niece, Letty Smith and her husband, Larry, of Winnie; and numerous cousins and relatives.
Known as "The Crazy Cajun", Meaux was recognized as one of the world's top independent record producers, recording such artists as Jivin' Gene, Johnny Preston, Barbara Lynn, Joe Barry, B.J. Thomas, the Sir Douglas Quintet, and Freddie Fender. His career produced fifty-five gold records, eight platinum records, and five Academy of Country Music Awards.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 30, 2011, at Broussard's, 134 W. Buccaneer Drive in Winnie, Texas, with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery. A Rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. Friday evening, April 29, 2011 followed by a gathering of family and friends from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. and on Saturday from 12:00 noon until service time, at Broussard's.
