Laura Turner Maurer, on August 14, 2011 Laura completed her journey after fighting cancer for several months. Laura Eva was born in Arkadelphia, Arkansas to Cleve Turner and Laura Flannigan Turner. She spent all her young life in Arkadelphia going from elementary school through high school to Ouachita Baptist University where she graduated in 1951. Arkadelphia is a small town where she enjoyed all the privileges of freedom, nature and friendship in the community. She was the youngest surviving sibling of brothers and sisters Cleve Turner, James Flannigan Turner, Ann Elizabeth Turner, Humphreys Talbot Turner, Martha Mae Turner, and Otis Hawes Turner. She is survived by husband John Frederick Maurer and their four children John Steven Maurer of Natchitoches, Louisiana, Karen Dillard of Magnolia, Texas, Sharen Maurer of Magnolia, Texas, and Edward Turner Maurer of Bellevue, Washington. She has six grandchildren and two great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Her favorite pastime was gardening and spending time with her family at their quiet and peaceful farm in central Texas. Laura was a member of Memorial Drive United Methodist Church for over 45 years where her memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. August 17, 2011. There will be a reception immediately following at the church. The family wishes to acknowledge the support of Laura's many friends, neighbors, and relatives. The family requests in lieu of flowers that contributions be made to the Laura Flannigan Turner Scholarship at Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas or the Caring Forever Foundation at Memorial Drive United Methodist Church, Houston, Texas.
