Rose Nunu Obituary
Rose Farha Nunu, departed this life on March 6, 2012. A person of great warmth and generosity, she was always ahead of her time. Rose's Lebanese immigrant parents instilled in her the values that guided her life both professionally and personally. Her devout faith in God and love of family were the driving forces in all she did. She was among the vanguard of women who entered the insurance industry when it was virtually an all-male profession, and she excelled over the decades as an agent with MetLife, including qualifying 15 times for the Leaders Conference and being a member of the Texas Women's Leaders Roundtable. She was a recipient of the Woman of Excellence award from the Federation of Houston Professional Women and Soroptimist International of Pasadena. While she participated in many professional and social organizations, she had a special place in her heart for the Soroptimist International of Pasadena, the Ladies Charity Club, and the Southern Federation of Syrian-Lebanese American Clubs for which she was recognized as the "Official" photographer. She was known throughout the community as the "fastest camera in the west." Rose was preceded in death by her husband, Charles. She is survived by her children, Charles Nunu & wife Rita, Paul Nunu, and Nancy Risk & husband Raymond, and grandchildren, Christopher, Alexander, Rebecca, Hanna, Chiara, Noah, & Valentina, and Shanda Nunu. A funeral service will be on Saturday, March 10, 10:00am, at St. George Orthodox Christian Church, 5311 Mercer St., Houston, TX 77005 with Father James Shadid presiding. A celebration will follow immediately in the church hall, followed by interment in the mausoleum at Forest Park Westheimer. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested anyone so desiring to make a contribution to the Ladies Charity Club, c/o 6450 Olympia, Houston TX 77057, Soroptimist International of Pasadena, P.O. Box 7472, Pasadena TX 77508, the Southern Federation Foundation Scholarship Fund, Attn: Rose Nunu Memorial, c/o Miriam Koury, P.O. Box 2422, Jackson MS 39225, or St. George Orthodox Christian Church.
