ANN ESSA KHERKHER, 96, beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother got her wish and went peacefully home to be with our Heavenly Father and her loved ones who have gone before her on Tuesday, April 17, 2012. She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Kherkher and her daughter Mary Ann Gould who passed away in 1997. Ann loved her only child dearly and couldn't wait to see her again in Heaven. |
Although Ann was her given name she was referred to lovingly as "Grandma" by so many who weren't even related to her. She is survived by her loving grandchildren: Amy (Gould) Hoback, her husband Brian , Tracey McCarthy, Kathleen Floyd, Linda Lisby and Michael Gould and his wife Abby. She was blessed with 12 great grandchildren: Lauren, Spencer, Patrick, Kathryn, Brooke, Austin, Ashley, Blake, Jordan, Devin, Aaron and Taylor. She is also survived by her siblings Frank Essa, Louis Essa, and Mary Jane Kudla. Her other siblings who passed before her were: Joe, Ernie, Vickie, a baby brother and their parents John and Amina Essa.
She was a devout Catholic and attended daily Mass for many years. Her strong faith and devotion to the Lord, as well as her deep love for the Blessed Mother, gave her unwavering strength and support throughout her life.
She was born in Iraq in 1915 and immigrated to the US through Mexico. The family moved to Detroit, MI where there was a growing community of Chaldean Catholics.
She obtained an eighth grade education, but you would have never known this, because of her savvy business sense and hard work. She and Louis opened the Pan American Club in downtown Houston in the 1950s. Having been raised in Mexico she had a love of the Spanish music. Many wedding receptions and quinceaneras were held there.
