William Richard Fairchild
(Aug 9, 1927 - May 22, 2012)
William R. Fairchild (Bill) was born in Houston to Marguerite Carleston Fairchild and Harold L. Fairchild on Aug 9, 1927. He passed away on May 22, 2012, with his family by his side.
Bill was a wonderful husband and father. He loved his family and was involved in coaching, camping, school sporting events and family vacations. He had great interest in the arts, and attended performances as long as he was able. He loved to travel, read, play tennis and watch sports.
Bill had a very generous spirit and was a role model to his family and those around him. He was dedicated to supporting causes that improved the lives of others, including church leadership, Habitat for Humanity, the United Nations Association and Settegast Heights, among other boards.
He attended Reagan High and Rice University. He graduated from Rice with an MS in chemical engineering in 1949 and began his 38 year career with Shell Oil, working in Houston, NY, Oakland and Midland. His career included technical consulting for facility engineering in oil and gas, management, and ultimately in the head office.
Bill met and fell in love with Mary Sue Wilson in Midland. They married in 1961 and built a strong, close family filled with good friends and many blessings. In September, they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with family and friends from across the country.
His memory will be cherished by his wife, children and grandchildren: Christa and Clay Midkiff and their children Amber, Aubry and Darren; Brock and Elizabeth Fairchild, and their children Brennan, Ashlyn, and Sabrina; and Erin and Matt Roorda. Bill is also survived by his brother Jack Fairchild, his wife Marie, and their children Joanne, Mary Pat, Liz, Jill, John, Mark and Janet, and their spouses; Bill's nephews Kirk Luck, who lived with Bill and Mary Sue the last 3 years, and Eric Luck and his wife Cheri. Bill and Mary Sue have been blessed with many wonderful friends and extended family.
