Gary Lynn Dowling Obituary
Gary Lynn Dowling , 68 With great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to countless people who he embraced. Gary passed away on Sunday evening, July 22, 2012, after a very courageous six year battle with lung cancer. He was born, November 20, 1943, in Chickasha, Oklahoma, to Oweeta and F.D (Pat) Dowling of Rush Springs, Oklahoma. Gary grew up in Rush Springs, where he met and married his wife Pat. He graduated from Rush Springs High School and attended OU and was an avid fan of the OU football team. In 1965, Gary and his family moved to Houston, Texas. He worked for Drilco (a division of Smith International) for 14 years. As a successful entrepreneur, he established Dow Machine Corporation, in 1978, providing specialized milled products to the energy industry. Through his business he developed both professional and personal relationships that have spanned his entire career. He designed and built much of the machinery and equipment that was utilized in the business. He constantly strived for improvements in the business and continued working up until just two weeks ago designing and building a new machine.
Gary loved life and enjoyed being around people. Though he worked long and hard hours to build his business, he always found time to enjoy family, through functions, trips and events for his children and grandchildren. He also loved the outdoors, spending many weekends at his ranch, working his cattle, growing and harvesting hay, and hunting and fishing. He has been a mentor, role model and confidante to anyone that needed support, guidance and help.
He is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Patricia Ann Dowling, Cypress, Tx.; sons Rick Dowling, wife Sandy; Tim Dowling, wife Debbie, both of Spring, Texas; daughter Michelle Dubiski of Cypress, Texas; seven grandchildren Codey, Taylor, Garrett, Jake, Chase, Madison and Ty, who he adored and cherished. In addition, he leaves behind Brothers Jimmy Dowling, wife Lisa, of Ft Worth; Greg Dowling, wife Debbie, of Salado, Tx.; sister Paula Lindsey, of Rush Springs, Ok. along with various nieces and nephews.
We are grateful for the treatment, care and support he received at MD Anderson over the past several years. In lieu of flowers and customary remembrances, the family would request, with great appreciation, that memorial contributions be made specifically in Gary Dowling's name to MD Anderson Cancer Center, Attn: Lung Cancer Research , P.O. Box 4486, Houston, Texas 77210-4486 or contribute by email at In his spirit, he would have wanted to help others find a cure for this deadly disease.
