Thomas A. Plato|
Our beloved husband and father, Thomas A. Plato, age 73, of Houston, TX, passed away 8:00 p.m., October 21, 2012, after a heroic battle with leukemia. Tom's wife, Carolyn Stanley Plato and daughter Stacy E. Plato were at his side.
Born in McCamey, TX. January 17, 1939, the son of the late Clayton Ward Plato and Iantha Adabelle ("Nancy") Kline Plato. The family were long-time residents of Baytown.,TX.
Tom was a Texan through and through. Although he loved to travel and at times lived outside the USA, the Houston area was always home.
Tom graduated from Robert E. Lee High School, Class of 1958, and from Texas A&M University, Class of 1961 with a BA in Agronomy and a MS in Entomology. Over the course of his career in agricultural product development and management, he was vice president for Union Carbide and Diamond Shamrock, President of the International Division of Griffin Corporation and President and CEO of Bactec Corporation. Later in his career, Tom turned entrepreneur and started his own business, Plato Industries Ltd., based in Houston, TX, to develop environmentally friendly agricultural crop protection products for cotton and other crops in the USA and South America.
Throughout his career Tom's work took him to almost every country around the world. His love of work, travel and life continue to be an inspiration to all who have known him.
Tom is survived by his wife, Carolyn Stanley Brown Plato of Houston, TX, his daughters Stacy E. Plato of Houston, TX and Amy Plato Roberts and son-in-law Richard W. Roberts, his grandsons Thor Owen Roberts and soon to-be-born Thomas Rex Plato Roberts of Davis, CA, stepchildren, Dr. Michael L. Brown and wife Beatrice of College Station, TX., Carolyn E. Brown and Steve Smith of Las Vegas, NV and Samuel S. Brown and wife Judy Brown ,and grandsons Christopher Brown and family of Plano, TX; William Anderegg of Denver, CO and Elizabeth Anderegg of Chicago, IL and three great-grandchildren, his brothers James C. Plato and wife Lynn, and Richard M. Plato and wife Michael and their families of Houston, TX.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 27, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Anahuac, TX.
