Robert "Bob" Glenn Willborn, 75, of Waterwood, TX passed away on Saturday, December 29, 2012. He was born January 11, 1937 in Big Spring, TX to Ervin Anson and Ethel Denton Willborn.
After graduating in 1955 from San Angelo High School, where he met his future wife Patricia Young, Bob attended Texas Tech University majoring in Petroleum Engineering and graduated in 1960. At TTU he met lifelong friends and dated Patricia off and on until they married nine years after meeting (she wanted to see the world and he needed to graduate) on June 8, 1963 in San Angelo, TX.
Bob was a Drilling Engineer and his career moved his family from Ozona, TX to Hobbs, NM to Abilene, TX to Lafayette, LA to Tarragona, Spain to London, England to Houston, TX where he retired from LL&E as Director of International Drilling in 1996 and continued consulting for 2 more years (he needed a new truck to pull his new bass boat!) Bob worked all over the world including South America, Europe, the Middle East, Far East and Africa. He retired to a beautiful home on Lake Livingston in the golf community of Waterwood. Bob was an avid sportsman enjoying hunting, fishing, golf and reading. He was a member of First Methodist Church of Huntsville, TX and the Society of Petroleum Engineers.
Bob is survived by his wife of 49 years, Patricia Y. Willborn, daughter Stacye Willborn Anderson and her husband Jimmy, son Timothy Young Willborn and his wife Missy, sister Dorothy Denton Wortham, grandchildren Paige and Marin Anderson and Brooke Willborn, nephew David Young and niece Elizabeth Young Lourash. Bob will be remembered as a loving and supportive husband and father and kind and generous friend.
Bob and Pat have enjoyed close friendships with their Red Raider friends and new friends in Waterwood and appreciate their love and support during Bob's long illness. Pat would also like to express special thanks to Glenda and Howard Brooks who helped care for Bob and are now part of the family. Honorary Pall Bearers will be Johnny Mulloy, Wendell Dixon, Doyle Parker, Joe Feagan, Jim Jemison, Steve Rutledge and Barry Stanley.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00 pm Thursday, Jan 3, 2013 at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home, 1700 Normal Park Dr., Huntsville, TX. A celebration of Mr. Willborn's life will be held Friday, Jan 4, 2013 at 1:00pm at the First Methodist Church of Huntsville with interment directly following at the Center Hill Cemetery in Oakhurst, TX.
