Hortense Brinkley Obituary
HORTENSE BARRELL TITUS BRINKLEY, born July 10, 1922 in Alvin, Texas, passed away on December 30, 2012 following a lengthy illness. She attended Alvin High School and the University of Texas after which she worked for Shell Oil Co. In 1955 she married J. E. Titus, Sr. and became mother to Jack E. Titus, Jr. In 1983 Horty married Clifton R. Brinkley and enjoyed many happy years with him. She was a member of Grace Episcopal Church of Alvin for most of her life. She was also an accomplished bridge player, attaining Life Master status as well as a long time member of Golf Crest Country Club where she was an avid golfer, achieving 9 holes-in-one. Hortense is survived by her son, Jack Titus, Jr., his wife, Mary, granddaughters, Casey and Kelly Titus; sister, Christine Mats, sister-in-law Metta Barrel and many nieces and nephews, along with numerous friends made through bridge and golf. The family would like to express their gratitude to the nurses, care-givers, and entire staff at The Gardens of Bellaire for their 6 years of kindness to Mrs. Brinkley. A memorial service will be held January 10, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at Grace Episcopal Church, 200 W. Lang St., Alvin, Texas. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Grace Episcopal Church or the .
