Edith Japhet King, aka "Pudge," 87, of Sugar Land, passed away on Monday January 21, 2013. She was born in Houston on July 14, 1925 and was a lifelong Episcopalian. Preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and a sister, Edith is survived by her husband of 65 years, Clifton E. King, and her children Genie Frye and husband John, and son Charlie King, grandchildren Matt Frye and fiancé Stephanie Peña, Tim Frye, Kristin King Burchell and husband Joe, and Ben King, and two great grandchildren, Sara Burchell and Henry Burchell.

Edith graduated from San Jacinto High School and The University of Texas at Austin. In addition to raising her children, she spent nearly 20 years with the Fort Bend Independent School District. Edith was member of Calvary Episcopal Church and PEO Chapter HU. Along with annual family reunions at the beach, she greatly enjoyed volunteering at her church and at the MD Anderson's Children's Art Project.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 25 at Calvary Episcopal Church, 806 Thompson Road, Richmond, Texas. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Episcopal Church or the MD Anderson Cancer Center Children's Art Project, Box 301435, Houston, TX 77230-1435.
