William "Mark" Batterson, of Austin, Texas, passed away on Monday, March 25, 2013 in Austin, Texas at age 85. Mark was born in El Paso and raised in Houston. Mark served four years in the U.S. Army, and graduated with a Journalism degree from The University of Texas at Austin, where he was Editor of the Daily Texan. Mark was Sports Editor of the Austin American Statesman for several years before joining Dow Chemical in Public Relations for twenty years, including internationally in Dow's offices in Zurich and Horgen, Switzerland. Mark was an avid reader, a gifted and creative writer, keenly interested in politics, incredibly witty and an amazing story teller. Mark is preceded in death by his parents, William Mark and Mary Batterson, and his brother, Carey. Mark is survived by his wife of 39 years, Anne Wiering, his four children Mark (Amy) Batterson, Barbara Gerami, Pamela St. John, and James (Tiffany) Batterson; his sisters, Clara Kemper and Dolores Davis; ten grandchildren, two great-grand children, and numerous nieces and nephews.
