Joe Cross Obituary
Joe Cross, 69, of Matthews, NC, formerly of Katy, TX and Mandeville, LA passed away at home on June 14, 2013. Services celebrating his life will be held on his birthday, Saturday, July 6, 2013 at St. Margaret's Episcopal Church, 8515 Rea Road, Waxhaw, NC 28173 at 1:30 PM. Joe was born on July 6, 1943 in New Orleans, LA, son of the late Charles Seagle Cross, Sr. and Beulah Corinne Crochet Cross. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his sister, Gail Ann Cross and Amos, beloved standard poodle and "his baby." Joe was a 1966 Bachelor of Arts graduate from the College of Liberal Arts in Psychology of the University of Southwestern Louisiana at Lafayette, now known as the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. He served his country for four years as a member of the United States Navy and graduated from the Russian-Defense Language Institute in 1967. His working career ended with a stretch of 17 years as a real estate broker for Prudential. His passions were Amos, cooking on his 1948 Chambers Range and reading. He was a loving husband, brother and uncle, and a friend to all; he knew no strangers.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Pam; his sister Linda Cross Ducombs and husband Tom of Waxhaw, NC; his brother, Charles Seagle Cross, Jr. and wife Erin of Monroe, NC; his sister-in-law, Penny Whitehead and husband Jeff of Metairie, LA; his brother-in-law Perry Jenkins of Metairie, LA; nieces Allison Crochet Cross, Andree Cross Kiser, Kaitlin McCall Cross and Sara Rose Whitehead; nephew David Allen Cross and great nieces Riley Brynn Kiser and Reese Alexandra Kiser, along with many friends who loved him dearly.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CAMP SOAR, Special Olympics of North Carolina, an annual camp for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
