Obituary Condolences

Richard Truett Houser, Jr., 62, of Houston, TX, died on April 25, 2014. He was born on January 29, 1952 in San Antonio, TX, to Richard and Audrey (Haas) Houser. He spent his childhood in Corpus Christi, TX and attended W.B. Ray High School. He continued his education at Texas A&M University in College Station, graduating in 1974 with a B.A. in Finance and later pursued further studies at The University of Houston Bates College of Law. He met his bride, Melinda Arnold, while at Texas A&M and the two returned to Corpus Christi after college.
During his 35 year career as a Certified Petroleum Landman, his employers included Texas Oil and Gas, J3 Oil Company, Mitchell Energy, and Petrohawk Energy Corporation, though for many years he worked as an Independent Petroleum Landman. He served for two years as the President of the Corpus Christi Association of Professional Landmen. He was often sought after for his knowledge and skills in the field and built a successful career for himself doing something he loved. Richard was an avid cyclist, a lover of jazz, and a Fightin' Texas Aggie. He was so proud of his children and doted on his granddaughter. Richard lived a good life and will be so missed by many.
He is survived by his wife, Melinda; son, The Rev. Richard Truett Houser, III and his wife Patricia; daughter, Allison Palmie Boyd Houser; his only grandchild, Ellen Rae Houser; his parents, Richard Truett and Audrey Houser; his sister, Laura Goebel and her husband Peter; his brother, Tom Houser and his wife Kathleen; nephews, Jackson Goebel and Max Houser; nieces, Anne Marie Houser and Lauren Goebel.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, April 29, 2014 from six until eight o'clock in the evening at Heights Funeral Home, 1317 Heights Boulevard. The funeral service will be at one o'clock in the afternoon on the following day, Wednesday, April 30, 2014, at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 1819 Heights Boulevard. Pallbearers for the service are Richard Houser, III, Peter Goebel, Tom Houser, Warren Houser, Sean McGowan, Bill Pope, Matt Wise, and Ted Wise. Honorary Pallbearers are James Phelps, Wyatt Norman, and John Ebner. A reception will be held after the service and the burial will follow.
In lieu of customary remembrances, please consider making a gift in Richard's name to the Texas A&M University Association of Former Students which supports student scholarships, student organizations, and Aggie traditions.
