Andrew Lee Higgins was a good Democrat, a man of integrity and a Christian which was epitomized throughout the whole program of his memorial services at Wheeler Baptist Church Saturday November 8, 2014. Mr. Higgins was a man who squeezed every drop of positive energy and opportunities he could out of the situations at hand. His faith in humanity went far beyond handing out political signs. The level of citizenship, good neighbor attitude and passion for educating and rehabilitating kids that he demonstrated for decades as a coach, teacher and neighbor was celebrated at his service.
His hero was President Obama. At the 2014 State Convention, he burst with pride every time an elected official stopped to speak to and take pictures with his grandson. He spent the entire weekend impressing upon his very young grandson how limitless his opportunities were and that even he could grow up to become president. Mr. Higgins really wanted to teach his grandson, that by being in the presence of great influential people, they can help inspire him to even greater heights. Young Higgins may not remember the weekend later in life, but the photographs will remain a reminder for his whole life of that attitude and belief that his grandfather had in him.
Andrew Lee Higgins spent his entire adult life striving to make a better world for children. When I looked out over the packed memorial service of Mr. Higgins, I saw many young adults motivated to carry his legacy forward to give opportunities of a good life to kids. I am honored to have briefly known a man of such character.

Verlinda:

Andrew will be missed. He was a friend. His spirit will live with me all the days of my life. I will miss his infectious smile.

O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. I Cor. 15:55-57.
