Kathleen Ann
(Katie) Murphy
Layman, succumbed to cancer and departed this mortal life on October 26, 2014. Born in Clifton, Texas July 9, 1949, Kathleen was the daughter of Episcopal priest Stanton Patrick Murphy and Helen Elizabeth (Betty) Dickenson. Katie graduated from South Houston High School and completed her undergraduate studies in literature at University of Houston-Clear Lake. She became a fixture of The Main Street Theater, before going on to receive her Masters of Fine Arts Degree at Southern Methodist University. Katie began her professional career in New York, originating the role of "M.J. McKinnon" on the soap opera "Another World". She also starred in productions at The Public Theater and Shakespeare in the Park, before moving to Los Angeles. Her TV credits include series regular roles on "Mariah" and "Heartland", and guest-starring on "Moonlighting" and "Seinfeld." Her film credits include "Say Anything" and "The Absolutely True Adventures Of The Alleged Texas Cheerleader - Murdering Mom."
Katie found great fulfillment as Community Relations Director for Barnes & Noble, and more recently working for the State of California.
Katie is preceded in death by her father, and survived by her mother Betty of Tomball, her siblings Mary Loots and husband Rick of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Patrick Murphy and wife Janet of Waco, Michael Murphy and wife Susan of Houston, and her beloved nieces and nephews (Eli and Jarret Loots, Sarah, David, and Amy Murphy, Matthew and Kevin Murphy) and grand niece and nephew (Kara and Aidan Loots). The family thanks her dear friends Meagen Fay, Tess Harper and Kitty Swink, who helped guide Katie through hospice care, her team from Kaiser Permanente, her special angel Sister Socorro from the Servants of Mary and caregivers Nicole Smith and Shana Quinones.
A memorial service will be held at Palmer Memorial Episcopal Church, 6221 Main, Houston on Saturday, November 22, 2014 at 2:30 p.m. Memorials can be made to The Main Street Theater in Houston, SAG Foundation or the charity of your choice.

Oh My, I just found out about dear sweet Katie's passing. She was one of the most wonderful persons in every way shape & form one could know! Her passing was way too soon!
